The steps to change-3I work with women who want to change the way they feel. They want to upgrade their eating and stop the war with food and body.

These wonderful women are feeling frustrated that they are not feeling really good from the inside out.

They have a DESIRE to change.

But the DESIRE to change often isn’t enough, because that’s only one of the steps to change.

There’s a powerful transtheoretical model based on how change happens, that works perfectly with food. And the interesting thing is that change doesn’t happen in one step. It’s more like 6 steps!

It’s a process – it takes many steps to even be READY to actually take action to make change (like eating more of what really works for your body and letting go of what doesn’t serve your body) – you have to be ready.

Readiness is the process of going from:

“I’m struggling with my food/body and I wish it were different.”

to

“I’m struggling with my food/body and I want to do something.”

to

“I’m tired of struggling with my food/body, I’m going to call and get help and learn about what I can do to help myself.”

to

“I’m stepping into action, and I’m moving towards ease and confidence with my food and body.

Within the model of change I referred to above, this is known as going from…

  1. Contemplation: I know I’ve got a problem
  2. Preparation: I want to do something about my problem and I’m going to get help.
  3. Action: I’m doing something about it.

My question to you today is where are you in this model?

Sometimes, we can get really stuck in one of these stages. I know for me, it took years to move from contemplation and preparation. I really kept thinking I should be able to get my eating behavior to a healthier place by myself. It took me a while to ask someone for support so that I could move into action.

Knowing where you are in the stages of change model can clarify what your next step is and what you need to get there.

If you know you could use a little support to get yourself to the next step, let’s talk. I can guide you on  this journey of feeling at ease with your food and in your body.

Sometimes it’s because they want to lose weight, sometimes it’s because they are eating to cope with the stress and feelings of life, sometimes they know that their cravings are leaving them feeling tired and crummy. They

The DESIRE to change is there.

The KNOWING that if they ate higher quality foods, more veggies, more water, less sugar and less processed food is there.

The FRUSTRATION and PAIN of not feeling the way they want to be is there.

BUT..even though it’s still hard to make the change into being where they are – hating their body, struggling with food – is there.
