Food FreedomIn working with my private clients, I see recurrent themes surface as they work towards creating a healthy and positive relationship between body and self.

One of those themes is…

FOOD FREEDOM.

I hear it a lot.

Women want to feel FREE with food.

We all want FOOD FREEDOM!

Don’t you want to be able to eat and…

  • NOT feel bad about what you just ate
  • NOT worry about gaining weight
  • NOT feel guilty about what you ate
  • NOT wonder what the “right” thing is to eat

You want to feel freedom in your relationship with food, instead of feeling like you’re in food jail.

I’m all for that…except I see a lot of women getting confused about what food freedom really is.

I hear a lot of confusion between

Rebellious Food Freedom

and

True Food Freedom.

This is a really important distinction, because one ultimately leads you deeper into food jail and one leads you towards body love.

Rebellious Food Freedom sounds like this:

  • “I’m going to eat whatever the heck I want”
  • “I’m going to eat whenever I want”
  • “I’m going to eat that donut/soda/candy no matter what anyone says or thinks”
  • “I’m going to eat it even if I know my body doesn’t feel good with this food”
  • “I want to eat what everyone else is eating  – so I don’t care if I have special food needs, I’m not going to be left out!”

Rebellious Food Freedom often sounds like a rebellious teenager or two year old kid. She wants what she wants – when she wants it – and she won’t let anyone else tell her what to do.

True Food Freedom sounds like this:

  • “I’m going to choose the food that I love and that loves me back”
  • “I’m going to choose food that makes me feel genuinely good”
  • “I’m going to slow down and enjoy my food because it gives me pleasure to eat”
  • “I’m free to say no to any food, I’m not at the mercy of my cravings”
  • “I’m going to feel good after I eat”

True Food Freedom often sounds like a wise, sensual, and caring woman, who has your best interests at heart, and loves the pleasures of life.

Even though the True Food Freedom sounds wonderful, healing and healthy – many, many women tend more towards the Rebellious Food Freedom – because it’s a retaliation from the constraints we put on ourselves around food.

Rebellious Food Freedom is a reaction against feeling like we should be “good” or be on a diet or be eating perfectly paleo or vegan or whatever other food doctrine we’ve bought into.

Rebellious Food Freedom is a cry of “to hell with it, I want pleasure in my life!” And truly, women need more pleasure in their lives, so I deeply understand that desire.

But Rebellious Food Freedom doesn’t give you long lasting pleasure. It’s a quick fix that leaves you feeling bad about yourself.

Thankfully, there’s a better path to pleasure, joy and liberation when it comes to food – and that is the path of True Food Freedom.

True Food Freedom is the path of respecting ourselves deeply. It’s the path of listening to your body and responding to your needs. True Food Freedom creates peace between you and your body – which brings true freedom – and true body love.

I know True Food Freedom is possible for you. It’s something that every women can have and deserves to have.

However, I want to be totally honest with you, True Body Freedom doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a path, a process, a personal growth journey.

True Body Freedom doesn’t have the immediate gratification that Rebellious Food Freedom has. But then again, nor does it have the food/guilt/remorse hangover that Rebellious Food Freedom has.

I’d like you to ask yourself…do I live in Rebellious Food Freedom or True Food Freedom?

And, If you’re ready to experience True Body Freedom, let’s talk.

From someone who’s taken that journey from Rebellious Food Freedom to True Food Freedom, I can tell you the rewards are many. Imagine how your life might feel if you felt truly free with your food and in your body!
