I have a short quiz for you today.

Let’s jump right in, because as you get clearer on what kind of relationship you have with food, you can bring more awareness and consciousness to your food choices.

Is food your pleasure?
Is eating the one time of the day when you really give in to enjoyment?
Do you turn to food when you are looking for a feeling of connection and love?

Are you in a PLAYMATE-KID relationship with your food?

Do you reach for foods that were ‘special treats’ when you were a kid?

Are you in UTILITARIAN relationship with your food?

Are you all about calories in & calories out?
Is food just fuel to you?
Be aware: Many of us cycle through utilitarian relationships with food, but they don’t last, we usually jump out of the austerity of a utilitarian relationship into the pleasure of a lover or kid relationship.

Are you in a YOGA relationship with your food?

Is eating the time of the day that you get to breathe and relax?
Is your cup of coffee your daily meditation ritual, where you actually get to chill?
Does food get you out of your non-stop thinking and doing mind, and into your body for moment?

Are you in an ABUSIVE relationship with your food?

Do you judge or berate yourself for eating certain foods?
Do you look at food as a possible danger – too many calories?
Do you have an “I’m good if I eat this, but bad if I eat that” set up with food?

So, what did you discover? What food relationships fit you?

There’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ here. It’s all about awareness and really looking with clarity and honesty about how you relate to your food.

You may have found that you have many different relationships with food at different times. When we feel lonely, suddenly food steps in to being our companion. When we are stressed, food becomes our yoga class, and we use it to relax and breathe.

Our relationship with food is worth examining closely, and working with, because it’s a doorway to our inner life and growth. Our relationship with our food reflects how we feel about ourselves and how we show up in our life.

Having an awareness of why we are eating and what needs we are trying to fill when we eat is also one of the first steps to having a healthy and positive relationship with food.

If you’d like support to work with your relationship with food, I can help. I specialize in the psychology of eating. I work with women beyond the issues of what to eat. In addition to the food on your plate, we delve into the deeper issues of why and how – and who is doing the eating.

If you’ve tried many other ways to change your relationship to food, and are ready to really have a delicious and easy relationship with food, let’s talk. Shoot me an email and we’ll find a time.
