My mantra as I cleared out years of stuff from our house this weekend was a simple phrase I overheard my husband say as he picked up a beautiful, but unused bowl in our house. He said:Â “This is valuable, but not to me,” then, he put it in the yard sale pile.
“This is valuable, but not to me”…wow…that opened up the floodgates of letting go for me today. We sold so much stuff that people asked us if we were moving.
“This is valuable, but not to me”…allowed me  to relax into letting go of  the stuff that I felt was too good to get rid of.
“This is valuable, but not to me” gave me permission to have fun. Everyone had fun, I loved giving things away, I loved selling old stuff, I smiled as favorite toys found new homes. I didn’t wonder if I was getting what my stuff was really worth.
I was ready. Ready to let go of what I didn’t need anymore. Ready to distinguish what was really valuable to me in my life right now.
What I am valuing in this moment is spaciousness; open shelves, empty bins, room for possibility.
“This is valuable, but not to me.” Try it out as you walk around your house, maybe even your life. Let me know what happens.
At the end of this long wonderful day of letting go I was tired! I thought maybe we should all go out to eat. But a whole day of focusing on what I really value made it clear to me that we would go inside and pull together a wholesome homemade meal. Â I made veggie-tofu dumplings. It’s so much easier than you think. I’ll tell you about that in my next blog.
