You’re traveling to another country
The security officer asks
Did you pack your own bag?
“Yes, I packed my own bag”
Because if you say “I didn’t”
They’re going to ask a lot more questions
Like, who did?
And do you know them?
And were you there?
They’ll check every inch
Of your well-traveled bag
To make sure there’s nothing dangerous
But what they don’t see
Is all the truly dangerous
Baggage that you’re carrying
All the criticism that got packed
By that fat-shaming gym teacher
All the food-fear that got neatly
Folded in by years of weight watchers
All the self-consciousness
Stuffed into every corner by
The skinny jeans that were never comfortable
This is baggage you did not pack
You may think it’s yours
Because it’s in your bag
But you didn’t pack your bag yourself.
