Last week, I talked about giving out non-food treats for Halloween.
However, some of us just love the tradition of giving out candy for Halloween. So, this week I want to tell you about a new candy that’s on the market.
It’s called Unreal Candy:
What I like about Unreal Candy is:
- It has no artificial flavors, preservatives or hormones; no GMO’s (genetically modified organisms); no hydrogenated oils; and no corn syrup.
What I don’t like about Unreal Candy is:
- It’s sweetened with sugar. Unreal candy contains cane sugar, icing sugar and evaporated cane sugar. Sugar leeches minerals and nutrients from our body. If we’re trying to support our children (and ourselves) to have healthy bodies – sugar is not on our side.
- It’s also sweetened with Agave Nectar which is not as healthy as the marketing would have you believe. Agave is naturally high in fructose which raises triglycerides – that’s the fat in your blood.
- It has no nutritional value at all.
I also appreciate and totally agree with what the Unreal Candy folks say on the FAQ page of their website:
“Is Unreal a healthy candy?
“We don’t consider candy to be ‘healthy’ for you. It’s a delicious treat that we love. What we’ve done is give people a better choice, so that when they go looking for candy, they have the option to avoid the junk.”
So far, I’ve given you two healthier options for Halloween: non-food treats and Unreal Candy. Next week, I’ll give you a list of some of my favorite homemade and truly healthy treats.
