Somewhere along the way, I learned this prim phrase:
Horses Sweat,
Men Perspire
&
Women Glow!
Well, I respectfully disagree. I sweat ! In fact I have been dripping in this heat, which leads me to talking about these indelicate subjects – sweating and deodorant.
Here are 4 tips on naturally handling the “glowing” issue:
1. Use a natural deodorant. You want to be sure whatever you use has no aluminum in it. Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s.
Here is my all time favorite deodorant, and it’s oh, so discreetly named: Rusalka “eau de toilette.” This deodorant is an all-natural spray that I found at a bustling farmer’s market in Saranac Lake, NY. I had a lovely chat with the super elegant Victoria Ainsworth, a former ballerina who hand crafts all of her deMilo natural beauty products. I bought several of her products and have loved them all!
She explained to me that the natural essences she uses in her formula combat the bacteria in perspiration. No bacteria = no odor.
And lest you think this is a not a heavy duty kind of product: my husband used it one night when he was heading out for a gig (he’s a musician). He came back after hours of sweaty playing and was still hug-worthy!
2. Eat less meat. When I studied dance in high school, my dance instructor, Martha Grey used to tell us to either use deodorant or stop eating meat. Her years of dance experience had shown her that: more meat = more odor.
3. Drink more water – it detoxifies the body. Less toxins, less odor.
4. Eat more fresh organic fruits and vegetables – they also detoxify the body.
What are your tips for coping with the glow or sweat? I would love to hear them!
