Holiday and vacation time with the family often means a lot of nibbling.

Between family get-togethers and kids – who often seem to need a snack after breakfast and then lunch right after that, and then another snack, and then it’s dinner – there seems to be more food at our fingertips more of the time.

One of my strategies to make sure I don’t nibble when I’m actually not hungry, is to give myself a nourishing drink that’s delicious, and filling.

I’m currently really into this Decadent Dandy Drink I created on a cold wintry day.

It’s creamy and sweet, and has that hint of bitter coffee taste that I remember

so fondly from my coffee drinking days.

I make my drink with Dandy Blend, which is a yummy coffee substitute. Dandy Blend is my favorite but other, grain-based coffee substitutes like Cafix or Caffree or Pero or Inka might work as well.

I add Hemp Seeds and Chia Seeds which pack a powerful hit of protein and omega 3 fatty acids. This healthy anti-inflammatory fat makes me feel full, and the protein of the seeds helps keeps my blood sugar levels stable which reduces sugar cravings. That’s super important during holiday and vacation time, when the sugar is flowing freely!

This drink is super easy to make.

Just put everything in a blender. I like using my Vitamix because it blends everything super-smooth, and if you let it blend for a few minutes it warms the drink

DECADENT DANDY DRINK

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Dandy Blend
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon Hemp Seeds
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon Chia Seeds
  • 1 heaping Tablespoon Coconut Flakes
  • 2 – 4  Whole pitted Dates – 4 dates if you like things sweet.
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 3 shakes Cardamom (a sweet Indian spice, if you don’t have it in your spice rack yet, put it there, it’s quite lovely!)
  • 3 shakes Cinnamon
  • 3 drops Vanilla Stevia – liquid
  • 2-3  Brazil Nuts (optional – but adds a lovely richness)

Directions:

  • Blend well in Vitamix. If you want it warm – blend for 3 full minutes
  • If you don’t have a vitamix, use warm water and blend for longer and use soaked dates so they are softer and easier to blend.

Enjoy!

And, however you celebrate this time of year may it be filled with warmth and love.
