I love coming back from vacation feeling re-energized and deeply nourished, on all levels.
One of the ways that I make sure that happens, is by eating healthy.
Eating healthy on vacation requires different strategies, depending on whether you have access to a kitchen or not.
The following list includes tips for both kitchen-access vacations, and on-the-go vacations. Right now, I’m on Cape Cod, and have access to a kitchen.
The fridge pictured here is packed with the fresh greens I brought, so that we could be assured of having healthy meals – and of course my daily green smoothie!
Here are 3 ways to stay healthy on vacation:
1. Research
Find out where the closest health food store, farmer’s market, or grocery store is. Fresh produce will ensure that you’ve got healthy food at your fingertips.
Look online to find out what healthy restaurants are near you. Check out the menus of nearby restaurants, and see what would really make you feel healthy and vibrant!
2. Bring food!
Whether you have a kitchen at your disposal or not, bring food! Pack easy to pack snacks: Dried fruit, nuts, gluten-free crackers, instant miso soup, etc.
If you have something healthy in your bag, you’ll be less likely to reach for foods that don’t support your energy.
3. Send food ahead!
One of the favorite strategies that I use when I have access to a kitchen during my vacation, is to send food ahead. I order all my favorite healthy foods online (I use Vitacost.com) and have them shipped ahead to my vacation destination. This helps me think ahead about how I’m going to take care of myself in regards to food, plus it allows me to spend more of my time enjoying my vacation, versus shopping for food or figuring out what’s for dinner.
Enjoy your vacation and treat your body well!
