Yup, it’s official…this is National Health & Wellness Coach Week!
National Health & Wellness Coach Week is a brand new phenomenon made official by a member of congress, Tim Ryan. In his letter (pictured here) he bottom-lines the reason why we really need health coaches:
“The United States faces a health crisis due in large part to the prevalence of costly chronic conditions which are largely brought on by poor lifestyle choices.
Health and Wellness Coaches work with individuals and shift them from being passive recipients of expensive health care interventions to adopting a responsible, self-directed, proactive stance that facilitates lasting positive change.
Consumers and patients have better health outcomes when they are active participants in improving their health and wellness.”
He goes on to say:
“Simply, those that adhere to healthful diet, physical activity and lower stress have lower risks of all illnesses than those that do not.”
It’s compelling and true, right?
Of course as a society we need to be healthier, but….
…what about YOU?
What about you personally? Why would you want (and need) to work with a Health & Wellness Coach?
You might not be facing a major chronic illness, but you still don’t feel great. You’re energy is low, you’re reaching for sugar and caffeine pick-me-ups to keep you going through the day. Or maybe there’s a chronic illness in your family, and you want to ensure you’re doing everything you can to not be afflicted by the diabetes, cancer, arthritis or whatever runs in your family. Perhaps your digestion is not humming along nicely, or you’re carrying unwanted weight.
These are all issues that impact how you feel, how you live your life, and how happy you are. These are all reasons why you could use some individual support with your own health issues.
Health and Wellness is more than a societal issue – it’s your own, personal issue!
So let’s get into why YOU, personally, would want a Health & Wellness Coach (and if you want to know how to choose a health coach that’s a just-right match for you, click here).
Here are my top 5 reasons you personally would benefit from working with a Health & Wellness Coach.
1. I KNOW WHAT TO DO, BUT I’M NOT ACTUALLY DOING IT!
If you already “know” you should be eating healthier and/or you should be moving more – but you just are NOT doing it – then it’s time to get support from an experienced Health and Wellness Coach who can help you move from “knowing” what you should be doing to take care of yourself, to actually “doing” it!
2. I FEEL CRUMMY!
If you just feel crummy, but there’s nothing glaringly wrong with you – then it’s time to upgrade your lifestyle, upgrade your diet – and upgrade the way you feel, by working with a Health and Wellness Coach
3. I’M NOT HAPPY WITH MY BODY!
If you feel unhappy in your body – you look in the mirror and don’t love what you see, you struggle with self-loathing because you’re clothes are not fitting the way you’d like, you’re eating due to stress and emotions – then it’s time to work with a Health and Wellness Coach who understands the psychological aspects of eating and self care.
4. I’M A GREAT STARTER – BUT THEN MY HEALTHY INTENTIONS FIZZLE!
If you start a new diet almost every Monday, or you’re always researching the latest diet trend – but then your healthy intentions start to fizzle away – it’s time to get steady support, accountability, and specific strategies on how to create sustainable, healthy habits.
5. I’M STRESSED, TOO BUSY AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO, OR TIME TO FOCUS ON ME!
If you’re life feels like a race from the beginning of the day ’til the end, there’s no time for you – and the idea of self-care just seems impossible – then it’s time to ask for help. A Health and Wellness Coach is your own private advocate, cheerleader and promoter of you feeling good. It’s like investing in insurance for your health – but instead of getting sick to take advantage of the insurance – this investment insures that you’ll feel great now!
If any of these issues describe you, then it’s time to do some research and find a Health and Wellness Coach that matches your personality and needs. You can learn more about choosing the right Health and Wellness Coach right here.
My wish for you is that you get the support and guidance you need to feel your best. There’s NO reason to try to figure this out yourself.
I speak to many women who – because they are smart and capable in many arenas of their life – feel like they should know how to take care of themselves. The reality is that so many of us, especially those of us who are givers, are great at taking care of others, but not ourselves. Please give yourself the gift of support and great health and start working with a Health and Wellness Coach.
May this National Health and Wellness Coach Week inspire you to step firmly onto a path of health and vibrancy!

Really an amazing guide. Very valuable content. I believe in professionals so this is a very useful article for everyone. Thank you very much for sharing..
Thanks Jaimee!
I’ve been wanting to lose some unwanted body fat for some time now, but I find it really hard to stick to a diet or a training program. I noticed in the article that you mentioned how the inability to stick to a diet plan can be helped by working with a health coach since they bring steady support and accountability. I think I’d be able to stick to my goals a lot better if I had someone holding me accountable to the goals I’ve set for my personal health.

You say that you could use a health coach if you start a new diet all the time and all of your intentions just sort of die after a little while. That’s me to a T. I’m just a little bigger, and I want to eat better and exercise. But I just always lose the motivation. I’ll have to find a health coach who could keep me motivated and help me reach my goals.
Amanda, my apologies for taking so long to respond. I hope you have found someone to work with. If not, let me know if you’d like to chat and figure out a next step of support for you. ~ Nina
