Just to be clear right off the bat, it’s human to sometimes eat too much – eat when you’re not hungry – or eat something that doesn’t totally agree with you.
We all occasionally override our body’s needs, and miss the mark on taking the very best care of ourselves nutritionally.
And if we could just acknowledge that “yup, sometimes that happens” and move on, all would be well, but – and this is a big BUT – it’s not always that simple, to just move ourselves back into respecting our body and nourishing it well.
So often, after we eat something that we wish we hadn’t, we spiral into self-criticism and self-hatred. We give ourselves a hard time and then our harsh inner-critic leads us deeper into food choices that don’t serve or support our health (or emotions).
It’s a nasty sequence of…
- eating something that doesn’t really work for us
- feeling bad about it
- criticizing ourselves
- punishing ourselves by doing more self-destructive eating
And then the cycle continues to the point of us feeling like we are out of control with our food, and a failure when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
So, how do you get out of this painful cycle.
