I love Farmer’s Markets!

Here’s what’s going on right now at a few Farmer’s Markets I’ve recently visited:

In Orangeville, Ontario (above, in front of  The Whole Village Farm stand) and in Davis Sq, Somerville, MA there are Ground Cherries!!! Yippee! I adore Ground Cherries. If you have never had them, now is your chance. Here is more info about these lovely pop-in-your-mouth delicacies that come beautifully wrapped in their own little paper lantern.

And, going fast…

At the Davis Sq. Farmer’s Market in Somerville MA, direct from the Nicewicz (said Nishway) Family Farm (I get most of my fruit from them)  Honeycrisp Apples are in season! Honeycrisps are aptly named, they have a sweetness and crispness that is scrumptious! They are a bit more expensive than regular apples, but totally worth it.

Next Wednesday, September 8th, at the Davis Sq. Market (in Somerville, MA) Redbones, a local restaurant will be grilling up fresh farm produce. Yum! I bet your local Farmers Market is hosting special events too.

Right now farmer’s markets are overflowing with tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis and dozens of other beautiful veggies. Each Farmer’s Market you go to will have it’s unique gems, so try “market-hopping.”

When I was traveling this summer, in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the Farmer’s Market was right by the ocean, and had – of course – sea food.

This market also happened to have the cutest hats!

My kids love coming to the Farmer’s Market with me, that’s Ruby in the hat! It’s always an adventure. There are tasty foods to try, interesting people to meet and sometimes cute hats to buy – I couldn’t resist this one!

Taking my kids to the Farmer’s Market shows them where their food really comes from – farms not grocery stores.

This is a sign from the window of the Hundred Mile Store in Creemore, Ontario. They sell food that is sourced from within 100 miles of the store! Love it!

Here’s where to find your local produce in the United States.

Here’s where to find it in Canada.

Go local! Go fresh! Go Fabulous!
