BODY-HOPPING

Her body is tall and lean

It’s better in her body

All the clothes fit

All the people love her more

She loves herself more

Her body is petite and buff

It’s better in her body

All the yoga clothes fit just so

She posts pictures of herself

She walks with body-confidence

Her body is curvy in all the right places

She walks with sensuality

She’s feels sexy

And your body?

Is your body hard to live in sometimes.

Hard to be at ease in.

So you body hop?

Skip into her body, and hers, and hers,

because you imagine that living in her body is better.

If you lived in her body

If you hopped into her skin

If you forced your body into her shape

Then you would be happier

Life would be better

Here’s what I can tell you from working with women and their relationship with their bodies for almost 30 years

It’s not happier in her body

Her body has it’s own stuff

It’s own struggle

It’s own journey

It may not be a journey that wrestles with food and shape

Her opportunities for growth and learning may come in the shape of relationships, career, alcohol,

or the myriad of other life challenges

Hopping into her body isn’t the answer

Trying to have her body won’t get you

where you want to be

Yes, staying in your body can sometimes be hard.

There are feelings that feel impossible to bear

Thoughts that are vicious

But practicing being in your own body

– because it is a practice

will bring you back to your own wisdom

and show you your own magnificence.
