MY BODY YELLS AT ME

I have a motto

LOVE THE FOOD THAT LOVES YOU BACK

 

It means choose food you enjoy

food that makes you feel good

 

All the way good

Not just the moment of taste

Or the filling of hunger

 

Food that makes your whole being feel good

Nourished

Taken care of

Responded to

 

 

I love my motto

I teach my motto

 

And yet….

 

I’m not perfect

I’m Human.

 

And so sometimes I eat food that I love

That doesn’t love me back

 

Cheese for example…

 

I love cheese

It does not love me back

 

I get a tummy ache

My body yells at me

 

I put my fingers in my ears

I pretend I can’t hear the yelling

 

My inner cheese-lover gets creative

Let’s eat goat cheese

 

That works a little better

Until yet again, it’s too much

 

My body starts yelling

I can’t ignore her

 

You’re not loving me!

You’re not listening to me!

You’re not paying attention to my wisdom!

 

In the past, I would withdraw

Into self-blame

Body-shame

Plan some new diet

A slippery slope of hurting myself with food

Because I did it wrong

 

Now…

 

I listen into the yelling

Because it is wisdom

 

This listening takes practice

 

Yelling is sometimes the only way my body

Can be heard

After so many years of my deafness

 

I listen

 

I often say I’m sorry

I ask

How can I nourish you better?

 

I reconnect

I turn inward again

I don’t step into another plan

 

I stay in relationship

Connected to my humanity

And in service to my desire to feel truly at home in my body.

 

I come back to the path of loving the food that truly loves me back.
