Nina Manolson at HerbStalkThe herbal conference that I went to this weekend – HerbStalk – had so many amazing herbal remedies, incredible blends, and totally fun natural skin and beauty products.

But I only picked up one thing!

Well, I actually bought 2 things – but they were both based on one primary ingredient – ELDERBERRY.

elderberries

I usually start talking about elderberry in the fall and winter, because it’s so effective at kicking colds and flus. But I think it’s worth having around all the time.

I take Elderberry syrup with me when we travel – because if anyone in my family is feeling under the weather, I offer them elderberry – and it supports their immune system (stopping whatever virus was coming their way in it’s tracks).

I’ve even sent a small spray bottle of elderberry tincture off with my son on his school and chorus trips, so that he can give himself a few sprays (in his mouth) if he feels like a cold is coming on.

I mostly use Elderberry once it’s been made into a syrup. My favorite high quality brand of elderberry (commonly available at most health food stores) is Gaia Herbs’.

At HerbStalk, however, I had the privilege of picking up some locally made elderberry syrups that had been combined with other immune boosting plants to make a powerful, combination brew.

Black Elderberry:

  • is packed with antioxidants which can prevent or slow cell damage.
  • supports and strengthens the immune system.
  • is known to shorten the duration of colds and flu
  • the flower and the berries are also known to relieve nasal congestion.
  • is also used by herbalists  to soothe upset tummies and relieve gas.
  • is also known for its diuretic and detoxifying attributes.
  • is high in Vitamin A and C and bioflavonoids, and can be taken as an immune tonic.

Put elderberry syrup in your medicine cabinet, take it with you when you travel, pack it for your kids. Let nature’s powerful plants help you feel your best!
