“What the heck do you give out at Halloween?”

I get asked that question a lot because as you might suspect, I’m not a fan of giving kids candy.

I am however, a huge Halloween fan! I love having a holiday that’s about dress up and play, and gets everyone interacting with their friends and neighbors!

So what do I do?

I give away non-food treats:

  • I buy fun Halloween themed pencils, pencil top erasers, stickers, and fun toys.
  • I let my kids choose 3 or 4 different items (within a budget that I set). You can find these kind of novelties at online stores like OrientalTrading.com or RInovelty.com.
  • We then create a basket for each different item. We make a big sign that says “choose one item from each basket.” This allows every child who comes to the house to reach into each colorful basket and pick something. Kids love choosing their own treat and let me tell you

I always get a big thank you from the parents for not adding to their children’s candy collection!
